Sold as a new T5 van, the Doubleback increases available space by nearly two meters when fully extended and allows for weights of up to 400 Kgs to be carried. The back extends electronically at the push of a button. You can carry 4 bikes in the back, and there’s plenty of room for surf, ski or other outdoor kit. Seems like a pretty nifty vehicle for your outdoor sports needs. Company director and DoubleBack designer Craig McCormack gives us the lowdown.”

Nick van Ingen, Pim van der Borgt and Tim Ruyssennars freestyle windsurfing at Brouwersdam on Jan 22, 2012. Brouwersdam is a flood barrier between Schouwen-Duiveland and Noord-Beveland. It is part of the Delta Works — a series of construction projects in the southwest of the Netherlands to protect a large area of land around the Rhine-Meuse-Scheldt delta from the sea. It’s a popular windsurfing and kiteboarding destination.

From umi pictures: “If you spend any time watching at Ho’okipa it is clear the locals really rule. Levi, Graham, Mark… they know the break and charge it. But after standing on the hill for hours and hours it became clear that the Brazilians really push the locals. Kauli is pretty much a local and kicks arse at any break he sails at from Pozo to Punta Preta. Ricardo is just radical, he can pull the sickest ride without any warning after stuffing the previous few waves. And Marcilio has made Maui his home and is one of the trick masters on the water; he is so confident and consistent it’s insane. When the Brazilians roll into town it really hots things up; not only do they rip but they force everyone else to step up their game. So here is our film showing them playing in someone else’s backyard – Brazilian style!”

Sarah Hebert is planning to be the first woman to windsurf across the Atlantic. From her blog: “This challenge is a first since the crossing will be carried out on a windsurfing board “mainstream” followed by an escort boat. I would stop at night to sleep on the boat, having previously taken the GPS coordinates of the breakpoint, to leave the next day the same point, the objective to have maximum transparency on this challenge! On board, three professional crew, a cameraman and a photographer will be my crew…”

WISSA is the ONLY world event where wings, kites and sails all compete together on snow or ice, slalom and course. This event, which is the oldest event its type, will be celebrated for 32nd time right here in the United States.

The World Ice and Snow Sailing Association (WISSA) event is the longest running international competition in the history of windsurfing. It’s also the most prestigious winter sailing event in the world. Held every year since 1980, the event location alternates annually between Europe and North America. This year it will be held in the 3rd oldest city in the U.S., St. Ignace, MI which was established in 1671.

The best athletes in these thrilling adventure sports will meet in one city for an entire week. In addition to racing, champions and beginners alike will be able to interact in a variety of WISSA activities.
